Time has come to celebrate the one-year birthday of CCS Chemistry! One year ago, we published the inaugural issue of our flagship journal. A lot has happened in the short time since the journal launch, not the least of which has been the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. We live in an increasingly interconnected world which makes it essential to work together and share our collective knowledge across boarders for the betterment of society.

We established CCS Chemistry for just that purpose – open global communication of chemistry. We are based in Beijing, where the headquarters of the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) is located, but we have staff, editors, and EAB members from all over the world. Thus far, our authors have been largely from China because it is easiest for us to reach the Chinese community in these early days of the journal. But, we openly welcome quality submissions from all countries. Our main focus is to publish research that will be transformative to the field of chemistry – regardless of where that work originates.

We have taken a step further in making CCS Chemistry one of the most internationally-accessible chemistry research journals by having all articles published in the journal completely open access with no fees for authors. All of our articles on our website are available for free everywhere. Few if any reputable journals provide this level of service and quality to the international chemistry community – free open access for authors and readers – and we are proud to do so. CCS as a society values open communication of chemistry – especially research that is having a transformative impact on the field.

As you can see at first glance, we cover many different areas of chemistry in the journal. To make this clear to our authoring community, we have recently updated the scope of the journal to capture the breadth of work we aspire to publish in CCS Chemistry, which includes all areas of chemistry and interdisciplinary fields having overlap with chemistry. The full scope can be found here ( https://www.chinesechemsoc.org/publications/ccschem/about). Take a look and consider submitting your next transformative research article to CCS Chemistry. We will do our best to make sure your article is online as quickly as possible (with a full citation), promoted widely, and freely available around the globe. Excellent chemistry has no boundaries after all.

It is unfortunate that we cannot all gather together to celebrate this momentous occasion of CCS Chemistry’s first birthday due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
