In the second chapter of stories behind works in our "Peer to Peer" exhibition, Anna Ridler shares her insights about Myriad (Tulips), a project that draws parallels between the titular flowers, and fluctuations in the value of contemporary cryptocurrencies.

《10,000支(郁金香)》实际上是一个数据集，是我用来测试生成“花叶病毒”的模型(由人工智能生成的，展示不同品种的郁金香不断变化的形态)。这个项目的着重点是“分类”这个行为。什么颜色，什么品种的郁金香，是花蕾还是已经死去？这些都是繁杂的、隐匿在作品背后的数量惊人的工作。

Myriad (Tulips) is really a dataset - something I used to train the AI model that produced Mosaic Virus [an ever-evolving and changing image of tulips and what appears to be every variety but that are computer-generated]. A large part of this project was an act of categorization - what color, what type of tulip, how striped it was, whether it was a bud or dying. It required an insane amount of work, usually work that is hidden.

通过将其做成与视频相关联但独立的作品，我注意到了“分类”这个行为，并且通过手写每张照片的标签注意到了“人为因素”这个点。数码技术将人类从技术中抽离，其所带来的闪亮的、机器人般的效果似乎抹去了这个世界的混乱，然而我真正感兴趣的是它的对立面：如何利用冰冷的、无菌的和算法化的介质来强调作品背后的人的存在性。

By choosing to make the dataset a separate work that is displayed in relation to the video I draw attention to this act of categorization - and to the human element of it by handwriting each label. However, bringing the human out of the technological, the shiny, robotic quality of much the digital appears to neuter the messiness of the world, I am interested in the opposite: how to use a medium that is cold, sterile and algorithmic to maintain and accentuate a sense of the human behind it.
