On the afternoon of November 14, 2022, BFA held its first expert session for the BFA 2023 flagship report “Sustainable Development: Asia and the World -- Public Private Joint Actions in Financing Asia’s Development”. As members of the expert group, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, member of the BFA Council of Advisors, former Under-Secretary-General of the UN, Economic and Social Comission of the Asia and Pacific, Mr. Anil Kishora, Vice President of New Development Bank, Mr. Fabrizio Costa, Economic and Financial Counsellor of the Embassy of Italy in China, Dr. XU Jiajun, Executive Deputy Director and Assistant Professor of the Institute of New Structural Economics in Peking University, and Dr. ZHANG Guoxiong, Managing Director of Deloitte Economics Institute provided valuable guidance on the key messages and main structure of the report. Representatives and author team members from the New Development Bank and Deloitte China also attended the session. Ms. CAO Li, Vice President of BFA Academy, presided over the meeting.

The experts emphasized the signifance and value of promoting global development cooperation to keep the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals on track, against the current conflunce of food, energy and climate crises. According to the experts, the report can make a holistic study over the institutional settings of global development financing, stocktake the current status of Asian development financing, analyze in depth the role of multilateral development banks (MDBs), national development financing institutions (NDFIs), other market players and public-private partnership (PPPs) framework with vivid case studies, paying attention to different development financing need across sectors and countries with varied income level. The author team committed themselves to work diligently and closely under the guidance of the expert group, with the aim to present a high-quality flagship report at the BFA Annual Conference in 2023.
